APRIL 30 @ 8:30 PM ET

Sophomore album satisfies fans and critics’ appetite

NASHVILLE, TN – April 28, 2010 – Average Joes Entertainment recording artist Colt Ford’s sophomore country album, CHICKEN AND BISCUITS (released April 20, 2010), debut #8 on Billboard’s “Top Country Albums” chart, as well as #28 on the publication’s overall sales chart, “The Billboard 200.”  Soundscan credits CHICKEN AND BISCUITS with 14,598 units sold during its first week of release bringing Ford's combined sales to date to 219,274.

"I'm blown away to even be on the chart, so to be in the Top 10 is surreal to me," said Ford.  "I want to say 'thank you' to my friends and fans because I make music for y'all and you proved that the little guy (he says laughing) in the music business can make it!"

Fox News Channel sat down with Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels and Ford following his April 20 CD release party in Nashville to discuss the record as well as their unique collaboration and how it resembles a similar union -- when Run-DMC and Aerosmith recorded "Walk This Way" in 1986.  The interview is available, HERE.

In more news, ESPN’s Lynn Hoppes said Ford “harks back to ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia’ sound of Charlie Daniels.”  Rhapsody’s Chuck Eddy noted Ford takes “power-chorded swamp funk to the hoedown.”  CMT’s Chris Parton added, “What Ford ended up with [on Chicken and Biscuits] is a lyrical flow that speaks the common language of many young people -- ones who grew up with Jermaine Dupri and Ludacris separated from Alan Jackson by only the push of a button on their radio dial.”

Having recently graced the April 2 cover of Pollstar, Ford will continue tour in support of BISCUITS including a stop on Friday, April 30 at Murray State University in Murray, Ky. which will be broadcast live in a streaming, High-Definition format to online fans around the world for $9.95.  True View Live will film and stream the show at www.TrueViewLive.com, as well as accessible via Ford’s official website (www.ColtFord.com) and his social media sites, including FacebookMyspace and iLike beginning at 7:30 pm CT/8:30 pm ET.  Complimentary media codes are still available and can be reserved by contacting EB Media PR.

RAP FOR COUNTRY FOLKS, COUNTRY FOR RAP FOLKS

Rhapsody Blog-by Chuck Eddy
Cowboys and B-boys both love their wheels and guns, and both like bragging about their chosen outlaw subcultures, so it's no surprise that hip-hoppers and hillbillies increasingly cross boundaries. For instance, 300-pound ex-pro-golfer Colt Ford has charted on both Billboard's country and rap charts. On his new Chicken & Biscuits, ignoring the fact that nobody understands C.B. radio slang anymore, he does a hick-hop version of C.W. McCall's trucker-country "Convoy," which topped the pop chart in 1976. As a service to future rapnecks, here are a few more potential crossover suggestions.
FIVE COUNTRY SONGS THAT'D MAKE GOOD HIP-HOP
  • Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys, "Sally Goodin'" (1947): Square-dance calls were hype-man rap before rap existed, and this one is all fast-talked rhymes from Western swing's premier dance band, built off the same "3-6-9 goose drank wine" playground hook as "Get Low" by Lil Jon.
  • Lorne Greene, "Ringo" (1964): Ben Cartwright from NBC's Bonanza poeticizes slow and low on horseback about two fast-drawing gunslingers who start out in the same posse, until one shoots the other dead.
  • Jerry Reed, "When You're Hot, You're Hot" (1971): Extremely funky-bottomed and gruff-spat Top 10 swamp country, with a crap-game theme that dates back to dirty prison dozens — though the stuff about welfare Cadillacs treads on racial thin ice.
  • Charlie Daniels Band, "Uneasy Rider" (1973): A former Dylan sideman, still a hippie, recites his own subterranean homesick blues about being chased by redneck yokels. He also takes swings at the KKK and John Birch Society; a few years later, Blowfly would swipe his cadence.
