I just wanted to make music. Real music with no rules! How can you put rules on music? It comes from your heart and soul. Who cares how cool you are or how nice your jeans are? The question is, can you make songs that touch peoples’ souls?
I love music. Music is more powerful than religion or politics, and it transcends culture. It is a feeling. Can you imagine if Elvis or Waylon or Kiss or Run DMC had followed the rules? If they had, they would not exist, which means I would not exist. I realize that a lot of folks don’t understand me or my music and don’t want me around, and I can respect that. What they need to understand is that I don’t make music for them. I make it for y’all. I have taken a lot of criticism from a bunch of faceless cowards who – as far as I know – have never written a song or stood on a stage and poured out their soul for the fans and the music, and I will continue to take the criticism. I want those people to know they will never break me, and I will never stop. I am going to continue to make the most real and honest music I can for you and I.
We live in the greatest country in the world, and we have men and women who fight for our freedom everyday, so when you see them, please say thank you. They are the real heroes!
I am just an Average Joe. A music man. I am a husband and a father, I am a man that prays, and I take my hat off when the National Anthem is played. I will always give you all I have when I play for you. I will always take the road less traveled, because that is the only way I can finish my journey. I am so thankful that you will take my music along on your journey and I pray that you will get where you are going, safe and sound.
I hope you love the record because I have never loved making one any more than this one. Take a moment every day to tell the folks that mean the most to you that you love them. We are not promised tomorrow. I love music and I love y’all. Thank you for loving me and my music!
God Bless,
Colt
